Question 26541: Solve by elimination Please help I don't understand what to do
1. 7x/2+7y/3=77/3
x/4+y/3=8/3 these are fractions 7x over 2 + 7y over 3 = seventy-seven over three
2. 3 squared x-y=2
6x+y=9
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1st: Multiply through the first equation by 6 to get:
21x+14y=154
Multiply through the second equation by 12 to get:
3x+4y=32
Now, let say you want to eliminate the "x" terms.
Multiply through the new 2nd equation by -7 to get:
-21x-28y=-224
Add this to the new 2nd equation to get:
0x-14y=-70
Divide by -14 to get y=5
Substitute that into 3x+4y=32 to solve for "x", as follows:
3x+4(5)=32
3x=12
x=4
solution for the system of equations is x=4 and y=5
Check that in the equation 21x+14y=154
