Question 26519: Please help me with this problem:
Two integers have a sum of 53 and a difference of 17. Find the larger integer.

I'm thinking it should be x + x = 53

x - x = 17
So maybe subtract 53 and 17 to get 36. But i don't think thats right either.

Thanks for taking time to help me, it's greatly appreciated.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the first integer be x
Let the second integer be y
x+y=53 (sum)
x-y=17 (difference)
--------
2x=70
x=35
y=53-35
y=18

Hence, the two integers are 18, and 35.
