Question 26386: This equation I have been stuck on it for three days now and can not seem to get past it:
5-a/b
------
15/b
My answers for solutions are
A) 5b - 1
-----------
15
B) 5b - a
----------
15
C) 5-a
--------
15
D) b-a
--------
3
This is a division problem that is why I put the lines there. I believe I would divide the 15 by 5 = 3. Then I think I would also divide the b by the b which would eliminate the b.
So I would have gotten this for an answer:
5 - a
--------
3
But this is not an answer on the test as you can see. Where am I going wrong with this problem? Thank you so much for your help! Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! First of all, this "equation" is an "expression" and I expect the directions are to..."simplify this expression"
First, simplify the numerator. Now divide the numerator by the denominator by changing the sign to multiply and inverting the denominator. Now cancel the b's ...and there you have it!
