the difference is 24.
x - y = 24
:
Use elimination here, add the two equations
x + y = 36
x - y = 24
--------------addition eliminates y, find x
2x = 60
x = 60%2F2
x = 30

Find y using x + y = 36
30 + y = 36
y = 36 - 30
y = 6
