However the second part of the question askes me to write the solution in interval notation. The problem is x<9 and x>=-6. Does anyone know how to do this problem? If so I really need some help.

To use interval notation, use a square bracket, [ or ], if the end point is included, and parenthesis otherwise. Use the union symbol, , to indicate "and" between two disjoint intervals. If there is no upper or lower bound on your interval, use or as appropriate. With or you NEVER use square brackets to include the endpoint -- there isn't one.
