Question 26211: I thought this problem would keep me up all night! Then I found this tutoring thing and THANK GOD! Because I am super stuck!
*A triangular course for a sailing race is marked off by buoys. The first leg is 250 meters longer than the second, and the third leg is 100 meters shorter than the first. If the length of the course is 2500 meters, find the length of each leg please.*

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let second leg be x metres
so first leg is 250+x
and third leg is 250+x-100 --> 150+x
so, perimeter is 250+x + x + 150+x = 2500
--> 400 + 3x = 2500
3x = 2100
x = 2100/3
x = 700m
So, first leg = 950m
second leg = 700m
third leg = 850m
and CHECK!
950+700+850 should equal 2500
--> it does! so correct
