Question 262097: a sweater is marked 25% off of the original price. what expression would represent the cost of the sweater after mark down? Found 2 solutions by unlockmath, richwmiller:Answer by unlockmath(1688) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hello,
Let's have "x" represent the original price of the sweater.
So we can see that:
25% times the cost of the sweater is what is saved, right? Or rewritten as:
.25x but we want the cost after the savings so we'd write it like this:
x-.25x will be the expression needed.
To put this in reality let's say the sweater cost $90 and see if this expression works.
$90-.25(90) Do the calculation and it is:
90-22.50 = $67.50
OK, it works.
