You can put this solution on YOUR website! a) If a seal population grows by 8% every 6 six years, by what percentage will it grow over 30 years?
---
Let the population now be "x".
Equation:
After 1 yr it is x + 0.08x = 1.08x
After 6 yrs it is (1.08x) + 0.08(1.08x) = (1.08x)(1.08) = (1.08^2)x
So, after 30 years is is (1.08)^5x
Ans: (1.08)^(30/6) = (1.08)^5 = 1.4693 = 146.93%
It will grow 46.93%
----------------------------
b) If a seal population declines by 8% every 6 years, by what percentage will it decline over 30 years?
Ans: (1-0.08) = (0.92)^5 = 65.9% (this is the amount of population remaining.
It will decline by (100-65.9) = 34.1%
