You can put this solution on YOUR website!
two trains started from the same place @ the same time and travel in oppisite directions. the rate of one train is 20 miles per hour less than that of the other train. in 5 hours the trains are 500 miles apart. find the rate of each train.

Let the speed of one train be x mph
In 5 hours it will travel 5x miles.
The other train’s speed is x-20mph
In 5 hours it will travel 5(x-20) miles.
5x+5(x-20)= 500
5x+5x-100 =500
10x=600
X=60
One train speed = 60 mph
The other train 40 mph
