Use the Theorem of Pythagoras.

This is Pythagorean theorem using
a^2 + b^2 = c^2.
From above, we get
a%5E2+%2B+6%5E2+=+8%5E2
which is
a%5E2+%2B+36+=+64
which is
a%5E2+=+28
so,
a+=+5.29
The ladder is ~ 5.28 feet away from the wall.
