1.) x + y = 2
2.) 2x-y = 7
From 1.) we know that x = 2 - y
Substituting 2 - y for x in equation 2.) we have:
2*(2-y) - y = 7
Solve the above for y:
4-2y - y = 7
-3y = 3
y = -1
Now substitute -1 for y in equation 1.):
x + (-1) = 2
x - 1 = 2
x = 1
