Question 26044: I COULD REALLY USE YOUR HELP!!
Here is my question: Jennifer is 6 years older than Sue. In 4 years, she will be twice as old as Sue was 5 years ago. Find their ages now. I've tried:
J=Jennifer S=Sue
J=S+6
J+4=2S-5
(subsituted the J in eq.1) S+6+4=2S-5
s+10=2S-5
?
I Know I'm Doing Somethin Wrong! PLEASE HELP!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sue's age = x
Jennifer's age = x+6
In 4 years Jennifer's age = x+6+4 -->x+10
In 4 years Sue's age = x+4
Five years ago = x+4-5
2(x+4-5)=x+10
2(x-1)=x+10
2x-2=x+10
2x-x=10+2
x=12
12+6=18

Hence, Sue is 12 years old, and jennifer is 18 years old.
