You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x/3+x/5=1
5x+3x=15
8x=15
x=15/8= 1 7/8 hour

if tim could paint a house in 3 hours and jon could paint a house in 5 hours how long would it take for the both of them to paint one house together?
----
Tim's rate is 1/3 job/hr
Jon's rate is 1/5 job/hr
------------------------
Together rate is 1/x job/hr
--------------------------------
Equation:
rate + rate = together rate
1/3 + 1/5 = 1/x
5x + 3x = 15
8x = 15
x = 15/8 = 1 7/8 hrs (time for them to do the job together)
