step 1 - multiply (ii) by 8 to get
(iii) 40x + 8y = -40
step 2 - add (i) and (iii) to get
32x = -32
x = -1
substitute x = -1 into (i) to get
-8(-1) - 8y = 8
8 - 8y = 8
-8y = 0
y = 0
