Question 25809: My question is,when solving and algebraic equation why is it necessary to follow the rule, "what you do to one side you must do to the other?" Answer by atif.muhammad(135) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! It's all about balance. Think of it as the Taoist, Yin and Yang.
Use the 'a set of scales' analogy.
If you remove 5kg from the left scale, you have to remove 5kg from the right scale in order to balance the scale up.
This is exactly the same in algebra. We need balance in the equation. If we remove '3x' from the left-hand side, we need to remove '3x' from the right-hand side. It's all about balance.
Get the idea?
