You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let eva = E and elvin, brother, = B.
we have the following equations based on the given information:
(i) E = B + 6
(ii) E + 4 = (1/2)B + 26
multiply (ii) by 2 to get
(iii) 2E + 8 = B + 52
Substitute (i) into (iii) to get
(iv) 2(B + 6) + 8 = B + 52
simplify to get
2B + 12 + 8 = B + 52
B = 32.
E = 38.

Eva is 6 years older than his brother, Elvin. In 4 years, Eva will be 26 more than one-half of Elvin's age. How old are they now?

Let Elvin's age be E%5Bl%5D

Then Eva's age is E%5Bl%5D+%2B+6

In 4 year's time, Eva will be E%5Bl%5D+%2B+6+%2B+4, and Elvin will be E%5Bl%5D+%2B+4

Since in 4 year's time, Eva will be 26 more than one-half of Elvin's age, then we'll have:

E%5Bl%5D+%2B+6+%2B+4+=+%281%2F2%29%2A%28E%5Bl%5D+%2B+4%29+%2B+26

E%5Bl%5D+%2B+10+=+%28E%5Bl%5D+%2B+4%29%2F2+%2B+26

2E%5Bl%5D+%2B+20+=+E%5Bl%5D+%2B+4+%2B+52 ------ Multiplying both sides of equation by LCD, 2

E%5Bl%5D+=+36

Therefore, E%5Bl%5D, or Elvin's age is highlight_green%2836%29 and Eva's age is highlight_green%2842%29 (36 + 6)
