Question 25733: It takes a Train X 2 hrs less than it takes Train Y to make the Trip from Point A to Point B. Train X averages 96 km/h while train Y averages 64 km/h. How far (distance) is it from Point A to Point B?
This is the entire text and info given in the question. It seems like we are missing one piece of information to get the distance, but the teacher says everything is in the text to solve.........can you assist with the steps taken to arrive at this? We understand the basice forula d=r*t. Thank you,

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First find the time that both train have taken.
Let the time be x
Since train x takes 2 hours less from thr orignial time, we write the expression as: x-2 --> by x begin the orginal time.
Since it is with 96km/h we wrtie: 96(x-2)
And for 64km/h we write 64x

Expression: 96(x-2)=64x
96x-192=64x
-32x=-192
x=6
We find that the times totaled is 6hours.
Now plug that in.

96[(6)-2]=64(6)
384=384

Hence the total distance travelled wwas 384 km.
