You can put this solution on YOUR website!
At noon Juan leaves LA driving along a route 560 miles long to Sacramento.
After driving at 60mph for 4 hours he realizes he has forgotten his saxaphone.
He stops, turns around, and starts to drive back to LA at 55 mph.
At 4pm Amy takes his saxaphone and starts driving from LA along the same route to Sacramento at a constant speed.
Juan and Amy meet at 6pm. How fast was Amy driving?
:
Some facts:
J was 4 * 60 = 240 mi from LA when he turned around
4 pm is the time that J turned around
4 pm is also the time that A started toward him
6 pm they meet, travel time of both is 2 hrs
:
Let s = A's driving speed
Write a distance equation: dist = speed * time
A's dist + J's dist = 240 mi
2t + 2(55) = 240
2t + 110 = 240
2t = 240 - 110
2t = 130
t = 130%2F2
t = 65 mph is A's speed
