Solve for x:
2x%5E2+=+288 Notice that only the x is squared, not the 2. Divide both sides of the eqaution by 2.
x%5E2+=+144 Now take the square-root of both sides.
sqrt%28x%5E2%29+=+x and sqrt%28144%29+=+12 + or -
x = + or - 12
