Question 256697: The difference between seven times one number and three times a second number is 25. The sum of twice the first and five times the second is 95. Find the numbers.
For the first equation, I got 7x-3y=25, and for the second equation I got 2x+5y=95, but I was not sure if I got the first equation right, and I always get stuck on problems like these. Can you please help me?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I got 7x-3y=25, and for the second equation I got 2x+5y=95
You have the equations right.
----
Multiply thru the 1st by 2; Multiply thru the 2nd by 7:
14x - 6y = 50
14x + 35y = 7*95
-----------------------
Subtract the 1st from the 2nd and solve for "y":
41y = 7*95-50
y = 15
--------------------
Substitute into 2x+5y=95 to solve for "x":
2x + 5*15 = 95
2x = 20
x = 10
-------------------
Solution: (10,15)
