You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1). 4x+2y=8
2). 2x+4y=9
The lines are parallel if the slopes are equal. They are perpendicular if the slopes are negative reciprocals of each other.
Write both equations in slope-intercept form (i.e. y = m*x + b where m is the slope of the line).
1), 4x + 2y = 8
2y = -4x + 8
y = -2x + 4
slope = -2
2). 2x + 4y = 9
4y = -2x + 9
y = (-1/2)x + 9/4
slope = -1/2
The slopes are not the same so they are not parallel. They are also not NEGATIVE reciprocals so they are not perpendicular either.
