Question 254488: Maria has 50 centavo coins and Php1.00 coins amounting to Php12.00. If there are twice as many 50 centavo coins as Php 1.00. How many coins of each kind are there? Answer by JimboP1977(311) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Well as there are twice as many centavo coins as Php1.00 this means the total VALUE of each type is the same. This means half the VALUE of Php12.00 must comprise of each type. So we have 6 of Php 1.00 and 12 of 50 centavo?
Make sense?
Algebraically:
0.50*C+1.00*P = 12.00 where C = number of centavo coins P=number of Php coins
S=2Php
0.50*(2P)+P=12
2P=12
P=6.
