Let the age of Jane be 8x.
Then the age of Beth is 3x.
The difference in ages is 8x-3x = 15
5x = 15
x = 15/5
x = 3
So the age of Beth is = 3x = 3*3 = 9
And the age of Jane is = 8x = 8*3 = 24
