Question 253279: At 9:00 am a car starts at point A and travels north for 1 hour at an average rate of 60 mph. Without stopping, the car then travels east for 2 hours at an average rate of 45 mph. At noon, what is the best approximate approximation of distance in miles of the car from point A? The answer is 108, but I am getting lost in the steps.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance to North is 60 miles, distance East is 90 miles
To simplify 15 x 4 and 15 x 6 (smaller numbers to square and square root)
Using Pythagoras, 15 sqrt (4^2 + 6^2) = 15 sqrt (16 + 36) = 15 sqrt 52 = 108.166
Hope this helps
