the problem is 8/10-x/2. do i need to multiply the whole fraction by two, or just the bottom
-----
Yours is a subtraction problem.
To add or subtract fractions you need to have a common denominator
on the fractions. It's like adding apple and oranges. They only
add if you call them both "fruit".
-------
The common denominator for your problem is 10.
Rewrite each fraction with 10 as its denominator:
(8/10)-(5x/10)
----
Combine the numerators over the common denominator:
(8-5x)/10
----
That is the best answer you can get.
----
It's like 3 oranges + 5 apples = 8 fruit

Is there a shortage of capital letters and punctuation in your town?
Complex numbers involve i.
i=square root of -1
Since this is not an equation, I don't know what you are trying to do.
If it were
8/10-x/2=10 for example
I would multiply both sides by ten to get rid of the denominator.
8-5x=100 would be the result
5x=92 then I would subtract 8 from both sides
Now divide by 5.
x=92/5
x=18.4
Otherwise there is not much you can do with
8/10-x/2
You can reduce the fraction 8/10 to 4/5 or to a decimal .8
And you end up with
4/5-x/2
or
.8-x/2
and that is it.
