Question 252976: equation of a line parallel to 5y=2x+20 that goes through (-1,3)
Answer by Greenfinch(383) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! y = 2/5 x + 4
Gradient therefore + 2/5 and y-intercept 4
To go through (-1,3) the line has the same gradient but a different y-intercept.
so call it y = 2/5 x + c and substitute -1 for x and 3 for y
3 = -2/5 + c
so c = 3.4
Full equation is therefore
y = 2/5 x + 3.4
To tidy it up for teacher, multiply by 5
5y = 2x + 17
