You can put this solution on YOUR website!
l=length, w=width
3w=l
2w+2l=40
Subsitute in 3w for l gives 2w+6w=40, 8w=40, w = 5 feet.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A rectangle is three times as long as it is wide.
The perimeter is 40 feet.
Find the width.
:
Let x = the width
then
3x = the length
:
The perimeter
2L = 2W = 40
so we have:
2(3x) + 2x = 40
6x + 2x = 40
8x = 40
x = 40%2F8
x = 5 ft is the width

Check:
2(15) + 2(5) = 40
