2y=8-x
y=2x-1
y=-1+2x (A)
2y=8-x (B)
multiply (A) by 2
2y=-2+4x (C)
2y=8-x (B)
2y=2+4x (c)
subtract C from B
0=6-3x
subtract 6 from both sides
6=3x
divide both sides by -3
2=x
substitute 2 for x in any equation
2y=8-x
2y=8-(2)
2y=8-2
2y=6
y=3
x=2
check
y=2x-1
3=2(2)-1
3=3
