You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I hope this is what you were looking for . . .
Suppose that some adults take some kids to a movie. There are five total people. The cost for adults is $9 and the cost for kids is $6. They paid a total of $36. Let X = adult and Y = child. Solve the system by graphing.
step 1: we have 2 equations:
(i) X+%2B+Y+=+5
(ii) 9X+%2B+6Y+=+36
step 2: graph each function. You can use slope intercept for each or find intercepts.
(i) X-intercept: (5,0); Y-intercept (0,5). Now connect your points with a line.
(ii) X-intercept: (4,0) ; Y-intercept (0,6). Now connect your points with a line.
step 3: If all has gone well, the lines will cross at (2,3)
This tells you that 2 adults took 3 children to the movie.
