I answered this yesterday by an example. We'll try a different approach today.
we know that Jan's expenses were 60 % of her income since her savings we 40%
we know that Jan's income was 5/8 of Fran's
and Jan's expenses were 1/2 of Fran's so we back track to Fran's
3/5*5/8*2=3/4=75% of Fran's income = Fran's expenses
So her "savings" are 25%
