Here are the original equations:
(i) 4x+%2B++y+=+-+9
(ii)4x+%2B+2y+=+-+10
To eliminate means some kind of multiplication and then add down to get rid of a variable. So, let's multiply the first equation by -1.
(iii) -4x+-++y+=+9
(iv) 4x++%2B+2y+=+-10
adding down gives us
(v) y+=+-1
substitute this back into (i) to get x.
x+=+-2.
