-5 is less than 1.

Negative numbers are always lesser than posititve numbers. :)

-5 is less than 1 because -5 is a negative and 1 is a positive. Positives are always greater then negatives...

well using the number line
it goes
-5 -4 -3 -2-1 0 +1 +2 +3 +4
find 1 on the number line
is 0 greater or less.
whatever zero is so is -5
remember if there is no sign, it is plus
where is 4
whatever 4 is -5 is not
