You can put this solution on YOUR website!
ok,
x^2+1=-8 --> x^2=-9
--> x=+-sqrt%289%2A%28-1%29%29 = +-sqrt%289%29%2Asqrt%28-1%29 = +-(3)*(i) = +-3i
4x^2+8=0 --> x^2+2=0 --> x^2=-2 --> x=+-sqrt%282%29i
y=x^2-1 graph... ok, let's stop and think about this
if it said y=x^2, we'd be cool... we've seen this parabola graph b4
so what will the '-1' actually change?
well, it will make all y-coordinate's one less
so the whole graph simply shift down one
if you ever get in trouble graphing you can usually get away with just plotting a few points until you figure out what's going on
(ex plug in 0 for x -> i get -1 for y, so (0,-1) is a point)
now, y=2x^2
what will that 2 change?
well it will make all y coordinates double
giving us a slimmer, taller parabola
does any of this help?
