Question 24793: 2x+y+6=0 in slope intercept form

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first get in the form y = mx + b where m is the slope
(1) y+=+-2%2Ax+-+6
m = -2
the slope intercept form is:
%28y+-+y0%29+%2F+%28x+-+x0%29+=+m
pick any value for x. I'll pick -3
plug this into (1)
y+=+%28-2+%2A+-3%29+-+6
solve for y
y+=+6+-+6+=+0
so use the point (-3, 0) in the slope intercept form
+%28y+-+0%29+%2F+%28x+-+%28-3%29%29+=+-2
+y+%2F+%28x+%2B+3%29+=+-2 this is the answer
check
multiply both sides by (x + 3)
y+=+-2+%2A+%28x+%2B+3%29%0D%0A%7B%7By+=+-2%2Ax+-+6
that's what we started out with OK
