Question 247783: Please clarify the following problem: The work surface of a desk is a rectangle that is twice as long as it is wide. If the area of the desktop is 18ft.2, find the length and width of the desk.
I have: 2x*x=18.2
2x^2=18.2
2x^2-18.2=0
2(x^2-9.1)=02(x-3.016)(x+3.016)=0
x=3.016
Check: 3.016*6.032=18.19
(Am I figuring this right?) Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If the 18ft.2 means 18.2 sq feet, then it's correct.
2x^2 = 18.2
x^2 = 9.1
x =~ 3.0166 feet
-------------
I think it's meant to be 18 sqfeet
Then, 2x^2 = 18
x^2 = 9
x = 3
