Question 24767: If someone could help me with this I would appreciate it. It is a mixture problem that I have set up a table for and for some reason I can't get it. The book gives the hint that "water is 0% insecticide" which makes sense, but I still can't get it.
How much water must be added to 6 gallons of a 4% insecticide solution to reduce the concentration to 3%.
Thanks for your assistance! Answer by Paul(988) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x represent the amount needed.
Since 6 gallons is already added to 4% = 4(6)
Need to know how much of 3% of 6 gallon =(x+6)---> amount of gallon(s) needed
----------------------------------------3(x+6)---> Amount of 3% of that gallon needed
