Hello,
The clue to this is understanding the words. "is" means equal and "difference" is subtract. Let 4/5(x) and 2/3(x) represent the two lengths. The equatioin will be:
4/5(x)-2/3(x)=8 Multiply by 15 both sides will give us:
12x-10x=120 Combine like terms:
2x=120 Divide each side by 2
x=60 inches is the length of the line.
