You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hello,
Let's first rewrite these
2x=2-y
3x+y= -1 so they look like this:
2x+y=2
3x+y=-1
Now multiply the first equation by -1 to give us:
-2x-y=-2
3x+y= -1
Adding these will look like:
x= -3 Notice the y cancels out. Now we plug in -3 to either original equation to find y. We get:
2(-3)=2-y or rewritten:
-6-2=-y Combine like terms
-8=-y Multiply -1 both sides to get:
8=y To check the problem put the answers x=-3 and y=8 into both problems.
Make sense?
