Question 245003: ln(5x-6)=3
i cant figure out this problem for the life of me. i have a graphing calc. can you help

You can put this solution on YOUR website! your equation is:
ln(5x-6) = 3
in general, ln(x) = y if and only if e^y = x
in your equation:
ln(5x-6) = 3 if and only if e^3 = 5x-6
solve for x to get:
x = (e^3+6)/5
use your calculator to solve.
e^3 = 20.08553692
that makes x = 26.08553692/5 = 5.217107385
substitute in your original equation to get:
ln(5x-6) = 3 becomes:
ln(5*5.217107385 - 6) = 3
use your calculator again to get:
3 = 3 confirming that your answer is good.
in my calculator, if i want the natural log of a number, i would use the ln key as follows:
i want ln(3)
i enter 3
i press the ln key.
i get my answer which is ln(3).
if i want e^3 i do the following:
i enter 3
i press the 2d key
i press the ln key
i get my answer which is e^3
