Question 243958: Hi, can you help me solve the following problem:
what is the square root of 20 x to the 8th power y to the 2nd power. I have a possible answer of 2 sqrt of 5x to the 8th y to the 2nd or 2x to the 4th /y/sqrt of 5... which is the correct answer? and can you show me the steps to it?
thank you,

You can put this solution on YOUR website! If I am reading your problem correctly we have
sqrt(20x^8*y2)
BTW it could be read sqrt(20x)^8*y^2
factor 20
20=4*5
sqrt of 20 =2*sqrt(5)
sqrt of x^8=x^4
sqrt of y^2=y
so we put them together and we have
2*sqrt(5)*x^*4y
