Question 243353: Solve the problem. The difference between two numbers is 4. Two times the smaller number minus four times the larger is -28. What are the numbers? Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x-y=4 or x=y+4
2y-4x=-28
2y-4(y+4)=-28
2y-4y-16=-28
-2y=-28+16
-2y=-12
y=-12/-2
y=6 ans. for the smaller number.
x-6=4
x=4=6=10 ans. for the larger number.
Proof:
2*6-4*10=-28
12-40=-28
-28=-28
