Question 243148: a sales promoter offers a special price for a scanner with a printer. The probabilities that each functions satisfactorily over three years are 0.68 and 0.72 respectively. What is the probability that at the end of the three years:
1)both scanner and printer will function satisfactorily?
2)only the printer will be functioning?
3) At least one of two machines will be functioning?
please state ant assumptions made.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a sales promoter offers a special price for a scanner with a printer. The probabilities that each functions satisfactorily over three years are 0.68 and 0.72 respectively. What is the probability that at the end of the three years:
1)both scanner and printer will function satisfactorily?
The events are independent so P(both) = 0.68*0.72
----------------------------------------------------------
2)only the printer will be functioning?
P(print only) = 0.68(1-0.72)
-------------------------------------
3) At least one of two machines will be functioning?
Since p(none is operating) = 0.32*0.28,
P(at least one) = 1- P(none) = 1 - 0.32*0.28
please state any assumptions made.
