Question 242700: i have a math problem that i have been trying to figure out but i get to a stoping point that dont make sense the question is

{{find three consecutive intigers such that the square of the smallest plus the product of the other two is 92}}

so far this is what i got. X^2+(x+2)(x+4)=92, then X^2+X^2+6x+8=92, then 2X^2+6x+8=92, then 2X^2+6x-84=0, then 2(X^2+3x-42)=0 but from there i cant find any thing that is of 42 that makes 3. my question is what am i doing wrong?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You've done very well except for one thing. Consecutive integers are only 1 apart. (I'm guessing you've also been doing some consecutive even or odd integer problems. These are two apart.) So your three integers are x, x+1 and x+2.

So do exactly the same thing you were doing before with x, x+1 and x+2 and I'm sure you'll find the answers.

(Hint: You will end up trying to find the right factors of 90 to use. Use 15 and 6.)
