So 315 = 3*105

105 can be divided by 3:

   35
 ----

   9
  --
   15

    0

So 315 = 3*3*35

35 can be divided by 5

   7

So 315 = 3*3*5*7

Those are all prime.  But we can write 3*3 as 32

So 315 = 32*5*7

So that's the prime factorization of 315.

"Prime Factorization" is finding which prime numbers you need to multiply together to get the original number.
Use the factor tree method.
I cannot draw the factor tree here but here is what we do.
5 * 63 = 315
Break down 63 = 7 * 9
Then break down 9 into 3 * 3 or 3^2.

Final answer: 5*7*3^2
