Question 241711: I have to solve the complex number system: 4x^4+7x^2-2=0
I also have to then graph it including all x and y-intercepts. I tried using the quadratic equation, but the answers I got don't work, so I guess I'm doing it wrong. I also tried to solve it by completing the square, but that doesn't work either.
Step by step instructions would be very helpful.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the y-intercept (when x equals zero), is -2

the x-intercept(s) are the real number roots

factoring ___ (4x^2 - 1) (x^2 + 2) = 0

factoring (difference of squares) ___ (2x + 1) (2x - 1) = 0 ___ x = ± 1/2 ___ these are the x-intercepts

(x^2 + 2) = 0 gives 2 "imaginary" roots ___ x = ± i√2
