Question 23960: I'm so glad that you guys are here to help. So the problem is :
Two planes left Seattle at the same time, both traveling due east. One had a rate of 185 mi/h and the others rate was 225 mi/h. After how many hours were they 220 miles apart?

If you guys could please help me with this problem, i would greatly appreciate it.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Since both planes travel along the same "line" (due east), the distance between them increases at the rate of 225 mi/h - 185 mi/h = 40 mi/h. The time required for a separation of 220 miles is: 220 mi / (40 mi/h) = 5.5 h
