Question 23842: im so terrible with algebra thank you so much for helping.A plane took 1 hour longer to travel 560 miles on the first portion of a flight than it took to fly 480 miles on the second portion. If the speed was the same for each portion, what was the flying time for the second part of the trip.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the time be represent by x
Distance on first portion = 560
Distance on second portion = 480
Time on first portion = 1+x
Time on second portion = x

Speed = distance/time

560%2F1%2Bx%29=480%2Fx ---> cross multiply
480(1+x)=560x
480+480x=560x
80x=480 ---> divide both sides by 80.
x = 6

To find the speed ---> 560%2F1%2B6=480%2F6
Speed = 80mph
Hence, the flight time was 6 hours will porpotional speed of 80mph.
