if it's a boy, then there has to be at least 3 boys because each boy has to have at least 2 brothers.

if it's a girl, then there has to be at least 3 girls because each girl has to have at least 2 sisters.

i would say the minimum number of children in the family is 6.

each boy will have 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

each girl will have 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
