Remove parentheses:
W= pV-pL

Get the V terms all on one side, and all non-V terms on the other side by adding +pL to each side:
W+pL = pV-pL +pL
W+pL = pV

To solve for V, we need to undo the multiplication by p, so divide both sides by p.
