Question 236485: Adam is 3 times as old as Cynthia and Fred is 16 yrs. younger than Adam. One year ago, Adam's age was twice the sum of Cynthia's & Fred's age. Find their present age. Answer by JimboP1977(311) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Adam = A
Cynthia = C
Fred = F
A=3*C
F+16=A
3*C = F+16 (1)
(A-1) = (C-1)+(F-1)
3*C-1 = (C-1)+(F-1)
3*C = C+F-1
2C = F-1 (2)
(1) - (2)
C = 17
Therefore
A = 51
F = 35
Does this make sense?
